Police rescue battered wife chained to a generator by husband



A housewife, Mrs. Obiageli Ajaero, who was battered and chained to the family’s generator for over 24 hours by her husband, Ifeanyi, has been rescued by the Ogun State Police Command

Our correspondent gathered operatives from the Sagamu division who got wind of the woman’s ordeal hurried to the home of the Ajaero at Ewooluwo – Sagamu in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state where she was rescued.

The Command Police Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the 37-year-old Ifeanyi Ajaero has been arrested for fastening his 28-year-old wife, Obiageli to a “generator set till day break after she has been seriously battered.”

The husband, a member of the already disbanded merchant navy, according to Oyeyemi “used a handcuff to chain his wife who has become so weak as a result of serious beaten from the wicked husband.

“The people in the neighbour hood, who have been witnessing frequent beating of the wife by the suspect, alerted the police of the latest happening consequent upon which the DPO Sagamu SP Aduroja Moses led his men to the scene, rescued the victim and got the suspect arrested.
“On interrogation, he admitted chaining the woman to generator, but he claimed that his action is for self defence.”

According to Oyeyemi, the Commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who described the action of the suspect as act of wickedness, has transfered the case to the anti- human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Investigation and Intelligence Department (SIID) for investigations and prosecution.
