Buhari at Juma'at prayers
- The Governors of Kaduna and Ogun States joined me for Juma'at Prayers at the State House this afternoon.
- Today commemorates an incident that we will never forget: the abduction, three years ago, of schoolgirls from Govt Secondary School, Chibok
- I'm eternally grateful to God for the return of 24 of the girls, as well as of thousands of other Nigerians forcibly abducted by Boko Haram.
- We've reached out to the captors & are negotiating to ensure the girls' safe release. We're willing to bend over backwards to achieve this.
- Let me also reiterate our absolute commitment to the freedom and safe return of the remaining Chibok girls, and all other abducted persons.
- It was to ensure the freedom of all BokoHaram captives & recovery of lost territory that we gave the fight against terror our full attention
- It is easy to forget where Nigeria was when this administration began 2 years ago,and Boko Haram held no fewer than 14 LGAs in the Northeast
- At that time Boko Haram not only occupied the Northeast, but also unleashed fear and mayhem well beyond the region.
- Today, BokoHaram has been degraded & is no longer in a position to mount serious attacks, other than sporadic suicide attacks on soft targets
- For this we have our gallant Intelligence & Security forces to thank. We're also grateful to all International partners who've supported us.
- Let me use this opportunity to remind all that last December our troops overran Boko Haram's Headquarters in the Sambisa Forest.
- Regarding our Chibok girls, we must not lose hope. I trust God that soon, our collective efforts will be rewarded with their safe return.
- My special appreciation goes to the parents & families, who have endured 3 years of agony. I feel your pain. Your children are my children.
- We will never ever give up, whether on rescuing all captives, or on completely vanquishing Boko Haram. That remains our promise to you.
