Collapsed Church: 'I’m no longer interested in bishopship, I am so sorry - Akwa Ibom pastor

Pastor of Reigners Bible Church International, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Apostle Akan Weeks, yesterday said he was not longer interested in enthronement as a bishop.

Rev Weeks, who spoke from his hospital bed on a radio interview programme monitored by NE, said the battle was not about him and his church but between the kingdom of darkness and the church in the land.

Rev Weeks’ consecration service as bishop was in progress when his church building collapsed on worshippers including Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel.

He sympathised with the families that lost their loved ones in the disaster and wished those injured speedy recovery.

He said: “Let nobody believe the speculation that I was enthroned as a Bishop, the enthronement was cancelled completely and I am not interested. I’m more interested in the souls of the people I have laboured for to bring to God over the years since my tender age.

“I am so sorry and I sympathize with all the families. Please, we should rise and pray together, we will win the battle.

“The incident that happened on Saturday during my Bishophric Enthronement is very unfortunate I call to say that God is still on the throne. Only God knows best and nobody can question him.

“And I want to say that for the departed souls and those who are injured, God will give them quick and speedy recovery. I want to tell every family that is in pain that our God is the healer.

“Let Christians in Akwa Ibom state know that this battle is not all about Akan Weeks and his church, it is the battle between the kingdom of darkness and the church in the land.

“I want to say a very big thank you to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Medical personnel, others for their love and support during my trying moment.”

In a statement signed by the Reigners Bible Church International and signed by its Area Pastor, Anietie Daniel, the church said: God will wipe away every tear from their eyes-Revelation 21:4.
