A property belonging to a former chief of defence staff Alex Badeh has been converted to an office by the Nigerian government, Punch reports. The property located at Plot 6 Ogun River Crescent in Maitama, Abuja which is valued at N1.1 billion is currently being used as an office by the presidential committee on the North East intervention headed by Theophilus Danjuma. A “Keep off” sign which was earlier marked on the building by the EFCC has also being wiped off. The building which had earlier being marked by the EFCC is among three property seized from the former defence chief who is currently facing criminal charges of money laundering and abuse of public office and funds meant for the Nigerian air force.
But a second property directly opposite the committee’s office which is also owned by Badeh and seized by the EFCC still has the “keep off” red mark on it. Also, some domestic staff – gardeners, among others – were also seen working on the premises while the rooms have been converted to office spaces. One of the worker who spoke said: “The property was given to us by the government to work. I know that the EFCC seized the property some months ago but it was given to us to work.”
